Othello - Classics

Picture
“The jealous are possessed by the mad devil and a dull spirit at the same time.” – Johann Kaspar Lavater.

Boy falls in love with girl.  Girl falls in love with boy.
Boy suspects girl of affair.  Girl doesn’t stand a chance.

Shakespeare’s tragic hero Othello, played by Amine Fourket, is led by Iago into a dark and twisted world of fear, anger and jealousy.  Collaborating with various artists to tell this well known thriller which deals with the darker side of love, Theatre By Numbers will use movement and an original musical score (created by Tom Woolsgrove) within the performance as we bear witness to the surreptitious plans of Iago, played by Andy Avery.

Rebecca Derrick is to perform the wronged Desdemona (as well as other characters) with a fire and energy identified as being in love.  While Nicole Gaskell takes on multiple roles as the young and charming Cassio, accused of seducing Desdemona, and Emilia, Iago’s wife and duped accomplice.

Placing Othello within a timeless and versatile setting, the story is told within a modern attitude and context.  The characters are recognised and likeable and the tale enthralling to all who have encountered love with its entirety of highs and lows.

Othello is performing at The New Continental, Preston 25th and 26th September (as programmed in the Preston Tringe Festival) and at Gullivers, Oldham Street, Manchester 2nd and 4th October.  Before taking it out on tour in the new year.
