Ode to The Fringe by Charlie Mortimer

Picture
Dark rooms above pubs
With PAs and some lights,
Loos to get changed in
Just out of sight.

That's a part of The Fringe.

Counting the ticket stubs.
'Over 10 in tonight!'
With the anticipation
Comes that moment of fright.

Another part of The Fringe.
"Let's have a coffee
and see if we're able
to get this idea off the ground!'

'I'd love to see this
up on it's feet
perhaps it'd work in the round.'

Early enthusiasm, high energy response,
with little money put into the pot.

I hope we can find the rest of the cash
I know we owe the fringe scene a lot.

Picture
We all shuffle in
with only the name to begin
and maybe a knowledge of one.

But we opened our eyes
along with our minds
as the tentative techie begun.

Whether it's good or it's bad
I'm glad that I came and
That the production got here too.

For this is how I got to be me
And Dearest Fringe I love and thank you!
