Writers

We work solely with writing made for live performance.

This takes a particular approach and understanding of how a theatre's creative team work with a script, how it's interpreted and prepared for a live audience.

Our ethos is to support writers in creating their vision for stage through a productive encouraging process which invites the writer into the rehearsal space and experience how a script is read and explored by director, designer and performers.

We believe that theatre, by it's very nature, is collaborative and that each artists' vision is important to the overall telling of a story.

If you believe you have a script that would benefit from being involved with our company, one that sits with our aim to create entertaining and provocative live performance, then please send it in with a brief synopsis and character breakdown to scripts@theatrebynumbers.co.uk and we will aim to get back to you within 4 months.

Other ways we work with writers

  • Feedback and dramaturgical advice;  we offer a complete reading of scripts with full comment and feedback on the structure, character development and production potential of your script.  With particular focus in the areas you want and require it.
  • Arranged performer readings; we can arrange a day's reading and workshop for your script/idea which may give a practical insight into where and how your piece can develop.
  • We have been able to secure funding for various schemes of work in supporting new writing, and we hope this can continue.  Limited to one a year, these works vary in their approach and is part of an on going research into the best practices of working with new writing.   The best way of keeping on top of these opportunities is to sign up to the newsletter and follow our social media spaces.  Everything is sent out to these first and are the quickest ways of knowing what's happening.
